I was up in Seattle this weekend finishing up shooting for the Rain City Fix book. I'm really excited about the images so far. I should finish editing the images this week and then they'll be off to Aaron Edge, design guru.

I love Seattle. Here are some photos from my this weekend: Bob the vulgar, bike obsessed, tattooed, lawyer. Aaron edge with bike and at band practice with his rad new bands, Hrod (i probably spelled that wrong). And Seattle's best female, Amy and her vegan partner in crime Katlyn who traded some of the most delicious vegan baked goods I’ve ever had for best friend photos.(and I’m not even vegan)

I haven't been to many shows in the last year or so. I've been concentrating much more on photography than I have on music and they have become less integrated. When i think about it, it kind of bums me out because I really feel that, in a way, punk rock has been the main catalyst for my photography. I recently caught a set of Portland punk band The Red Dons. I haven't seen a band this refreshing in a long time. They are a punk rock band with an obvious older British influences but with their own individuality. I can't wait to hear and see more of this band.

I've been watching a ton of films lately. Last night i watched Micheal Clayton and though it was great. The title sequence was beautifuly shot but with very cryptic monolog over it. I'm going to watch it again tonight.

My schedule at work has changed due to a recent promotion. So, i haven't had as much time as i'd like to shoot photos. I shot these last week.

I've always been a fan of music by Shelby Cinca. I saw Frodus play when i was 17 years and have been a fan ever since. Frodus's "and we washed out weapons in the sea" is one of those records that has never left consitant rotation for me. I recently downloaded ('cause it's the only way you can get it) Shelby's new project Man and Wasp. I think it's some of his best work.

playlist for today:

refused - shape of punk to come

Converge & Neurosis: Seattle Washington 2/16/08

I had the opportunity to photograph converge and neurosis this past weekend. Both bands have been a huge inspiration artistically and musically so I was excited, to say the least. The club asked that i not shoot with a flash about 2 songs into Converge’s set so I shot most of the live images at ISO 1600. The images still came out underexposed so I pushed it during post editing which gave the images a grainy, dark, ominous feel; fitting for both bands. Much thanks to Jake Bannon for allowing me to shoot.

20" X 30" Prints will be available for $125 each. E-mail me at salo@odeum.org if you're interested.

This weekend, while in seattle, i got to hang out with my friend BJ. We chatted it up over a few drinks about old times. It's always nice catching up with people you don't get to see as often as you'd like. It's even nicer to see them doing well. Here's to old friends.
